Evaluation of Shoot Day

We were all very prepared when we arrived on the shoot day, we had an array of costumes for our band to choose from and a large amount of makeup too. All three of the sets had all props and sets prepared and ready to use.
When we first headed down to the studio we had to change the trace paper from in front of the wood to behind the wood as when we put on the lights it created too many shadows when in front.

The first strand that we filmed was the performance strand. we had to move around the band to decided where was the best place to stand and where was the best place to put the amp.

As we started to film we fell into certain roles. for instance Franchi seemed to be in charge of the time code, liv took photos throughout the day and made sure that all artistic elements were correct, and me and phoebe were directing and filming. However we all took part in each element but these were the ones we seemed to fall naturally into.

We then filmed the sheet scene, i felt like this could have been shot better, with more range of shots. I think that this is our least successful strand as most of the shots look the same and the sheet didn't have exactly the right type of effect. However we did get a few good shots which we can use.

The final strand was the glitter falling, it took a while for us to get the correct position for the band, and Tertia had to stand on some books to be the same height at Will. However looking back at the shots from the edit they look beautiful and very artistic and elegant. We had to throw the glitter from above and blow it with a fan, this took a bit of practice and lots of tidying up!

I felt our shoot day was predominantly successful. We managed to get all the shots that we had planned on and finished early. It was good to work with the band as they know the song very well so the lip syncing looks very realistic, and she even sung at some points. We even tried out some more artistic shots such as this one:

(I took a video of a shot where some-one else was filming)

It was interesting to work with a crane, something I have not done before, it made it easy to get interesting shots and sped up the process.

Here are some pictures from shoot day when we were using the crane:

Photo Shoot First Ideas

We started to think about ideas for the album artwork and liked the way that Alunageorge were photographed and want to take inspiration from this.

We like the artistic style of this shot, we also like to use of black and white. It shows there unity as a band because they look comfortable around each other, so we want to go for a similar shot for the front cover.

We like the idea of having one of them either side of the CD, except we don't like the way half their face.

Introductions to The Digipak

A Digipak is often used for CD singles or special editions of albums. They usually consist of a book folding style and contain CD/s and sometimes a leaflet.

But they also follow certain conventions such as:
  • The band name in clear big letters and the album name underneath in a similar or matching font.
  • And the back tends to have a list of songs, the record companies name, the production details a bar code and copyright information.

  • They will also have a continued visual style throughout, with a recurring colour scheme, with a continuous art style.

They appeal to audiences because:
  • They are collectable
  • They provide a nice display
  • They appeal to older audiences who grew up with hard copies of music
  • They contain extra information such as lyrics and production details
So far this is the design for our Digipak:

A picture of the two band members in a studio background and a faded coloured triangle covering them. With the band name at the album name smaller like the examples we researched.

A vinyl with the album and band name on, possibly a picture of the band members behind on each side cutting of one half.

The flutter glitter like in the music video but with the other song names on them and a black background.
