The Shining

What can we tell about this thriller from the advert?

He looks animalistic, this is due to his bearing teeth. They are not touching, this gives the impression that he is breathing heavily, therefore we could guess that he has been chasing her. This also makes him look hungry, as if he is about to tear her apart, and do unhumane things, creating tension.
He also looks larger than the woman suggesting that he is stronger and more in control, giving us the feeling that something will happen to her in the film, making her look weaker and more vulnerable, creating more suspense for the film. His weapon ( an ax) is also a more dangerous weapon than the small blunt looking knife  that she is holding. Another comparison between the two characters is the color of their background. The woman has a white background. White is a typical representation of innocence  and vulnerability, implying her situation. This juxtaposes with his dark background, hinting that he is the ‘baddie’.
Other things that we can tell about the woman and the man are who is chasing who. The fact that she is smaller than him suggests that he is the attacker and she is in defense. Other things that tell us this is a chase, is the fact he is on the left side, which is the side we start reading on, meaning that we will see him then her first when we look at the advert. This gives us the impression that he is chasing her.
